She may be new, but she’s already hard at it at the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs Department. Liz Truss was given the job of DEFRA Secretary this week and is busy catching up on the latest information about our Flood Plan. She has also accepted an invitation from me to come to the Somerset Levels and see for herself what we faced when the waters rose last winter – not to mention what has been done since. I am confident that Liz will be more than equal to the challenge. She represents South West Norfolk – a part of England that has learned to tackle flood problems of its own. She has a forensic mind and a sound commercial instinct, having worked for both Shell and Cable and Wireless.
