The appalling bloodshed in Ukraine is unwarranted and unacceptable. The attacks upon innocent people are deeply shocking.
The bombardments Russia has unleashed have no justification. Some of the weapons now in use may well be illegal.
That is why Britain has acted so swiftly to impose tough sanctions on Russia.
Vladimir Putin’s premeditated invasion has gone beyond decency, let alone logic.
He has already been shunned and cut off by the rest of the civilised world. He risks becoming, if he has not already become, the most reviled dictator on the planet.
I applaud and continue to be amazed by the courage and fortitude of ordinary Ukrainian citizens. They are prepared to fight for their families, their heritage and their land with the humblest of arms. They face overwhelming firepower, but they still intend to resist.
We must do everything we can to support them – and we will.
