WHAT PRICE FREEDOM?

17 June, 2021 by Ian

The Prime Minister postponed Freedom Day. The House of Commons approved the delay.

And though I fully understand and sympathise with  our vital tourism and hospitality industries I voted to delay the final end of lockdown purely on the strength of the scientific evidence.

The new Delta variant has a scary skill to spread fast. It may only have clocked up a handful of cases in West Somerset and Sedgemoor so far, but that does not mean we can afford to ignore it.

I applaud the extra roll out of vaccinations for younger people. They are the vulnerable now. It is they who will suffer if this variant is allowed to take hold.

So, whatever the cost short-term, it must be better to get as many young people jabbed as quickly as possible and then think about celebrating freedom a month from now.
