Cystic Fibrosis is a cruel disease. It robs sufferers of hope, drains their energy, saps their strength and slowly, painfully, deprives them of a normal life. Yet this ailment has responded to effective drug treatment which has been available for some time. The huge drawback has been the cost. Now, after a determined campaign of persuasion, the Government and the NHS have found a financial formula that makes Orkambi and Symkevi (both manufactured by the Vertex company) affordable. This follows a great deal of pressure exerted upon Ministers by patients and MPs, including myself. I am delighted that, at long last, an agreement has been reached that will undoubtedly relieve the plight of several of my constituents. I pay tribute to all those responsible for brokering this important deal.
