Last Friday morning the votes were finally counted and, in addition to returning a majority Conservative government, the people of Bridgwater and West Somerset sent me back to Westminster. I am enormously proud and very grateful indeed to all those who voted for me and helped with the campaign. The road to Parliament is no easy day-trip. The effort that has to be injected is enormous. All political campaigners know this to be true and I pay equal tribute to all those who participated in the democratic process. Naturally not everyone will be as thrilled with the outcome as I am. But I would like to offer an absolute assurance: party politics comes second from now on. My primary job is to represent everyone, no matter who they are or how they voted. I promise to that to be best of my ability.
