Tackling climate change

17 October, 2019 by Ian

You will not catch me obstructing the highway or indulging in direct action, but I am as keen as the best of them to prevent a global environmental disaster by facing up to the challenges of climate change and doing something constructive as soon as possible.

That is why I am totally in favour of the Government’s new Environmental Bill which has just been published. This legislation enshrines sensible ideas for safeguarding our future. It should not be a matter of partisan dispute. I hope it will be treated seriously by Parliamentary colleagues from every wing of every party.

This week I have been meeting Parliamentary colleagues from the Inter Parliamentary Union who hail from many parts of the world and can report that there is now a significant groundswell of pressure for action to tackle climate change. Long may it continue.
