Parliament goes for Brexit

9 February, 2017 by Ian

There is now no longer any doubt. Last night, after a long and fascinating debate, MPs voted decisively to support triggering Article 50 – the bit of our membership agreement with the EU that  allows us to hand back our card and leave the club. The size of the majority in favour should convince the most committed “remainers” that Brexit is now a certainty. The next question is how can it best be achieved. I want to see a deal that favours Britain without destroying all the many good relationships that have been developed over the years. I will be seeking an intelligent trade arrangement with our old friends in Europe which removes as many barriers as possible. Whatever Brussels may say, these things are worth campaigning for and many will be achievable.
