NURSE ON THE MOOR

29 April, 2020 by Ian

You can’t miss her. She stands six foot tall and more, eyeing the rolling expanse of Exmoor with a confident stance and a steely gaze. Nurse Amy is, after all, cut from steel. She represents the very best of National Health Service care and came into being from the experience of one individual from Exmoor Welding who faced a spell in  hospital and was bowled over by the treatment.

Amy is not the real name of the nurse involved. But the statue has captured something special and inspired many people near and far. As a result the man who runs Exmoor Welding, Pete Henson, is now keeping all his team fully employed cutting out replicas for sale. The profits, needless to say, will go straight back to the NHS.

I think it is a wonderful, memorable gesture and an inspiration to us all at this difficult time.
