I am deeply saddened by the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. My heartfelt condolences, and those of my constituents, go to HM King Charles III and all her family at this difficult time.
For the vast majority of us Queen Elizabeth II has been monarch throughout our lives – a constant and reliable presence. For many it will feel as if they have lost a close member of their own family.
She was a stabilising influence and comforting presence in times of trouble – for example during the recent pandemic – and her dedication and duty to our country is beyond measure.
She leaves a formidable legacy of positive achievements, but I am sure that many of us will cherish our own memories from 70 years of a glorious Elizabethan age as we mourn her passing.
