I placed my simple plywood cross in Westminster’s field of Remembrance to mark an anniversary which remains special to my family and all my constituents.
It is a humbling privilege to be involved recalling the courage of past and present wars, the sacrifices of so many men and women of our armed forces and the legacy they leave.
I spent many years in uniform and understand the pressures.
What they have done and continue to do by brave example justifies me in the belief that sometimes freedoms have to be defended by force, whatever the cost.
Any contribution you can make (however small) to the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal or Help for Heroes, or both, will be gratefully received and carefully used to help those who have given so much defending life and liberty for the rest of us.
We must always remember them.
