1922 and just look at the size of the crowd! Williton turned out in force and finery for the official dedication and opening of the War Memorial Recreation Ground. It was a fine idea to provide somewhere peaceful in which to commemorate those brave local men and women who sacrificed their lives during the First World War. Ever since then the grounds and the memorial itself have been lovingly tended, improved and handed down for new generations to enjoy. Williton has every reason to be proud of the efforts made to keep this place special. No wonder the recent application for a grant from the Big Lottery Fund was successful. Now there is almost £30,000 extra in the kitty to care for this unique West Somerset facility. May I add my personal congratulations.
