There are still a few days to use your vote and let the Government know which unitary system you would rather see introduced in Somerset.
This referendum does not guarantee that the Secretary of State will take any notice, but the more people vote the less he can ignore them.
I urge everyone to participate. The vote would not be taking place at all if Somerset County Council and the Government had their way.
A shoddy survey was held but we still have no idea how many people took part and there is no certainty that they were real people – because there were no security checks.
This referendum will cost the district councils around £300,000 which is about the price of a standard Mars bar for every registered voter.
It is being fairly run, independently overseen and has all the checks you would expect from responsible local government.
Last week the Secretary of State Robert Jenrick sent another aggressive letter to the district councils criticising the referendum. This should have given everyone an extra nudge to get involved and show him what democracy looks like. I sent a detailed reply to Mr Jenrick over the weekend.
