Butlins has shut its doors. Glastonbury is cancelled. The West Somerset Railway will not run. The Bath and West Show is off too and even the vital Sedgemoor Auction Centre at Junction 24 will be mothballed. This virus is dangerous enough to interfere with all our lives for months to come. Many of my constituents are of an age that makes them even more vulnerable. I sincerely urge every one to listen to Government advice, take it very seriously and obey the rules. That means, for all of us, remaining at a social distance, staying in our homes – not visiting friends and relatives, not popping out except for one session of solitary exercise per day . Yes, our local businesses are going to be hit hard. Many of them have been forced to shut. That is why the Government is pulling out all the stops to help. But no amount of money will stop this disease on its own. What’s required is common sense and community spirit. We have to pull together and keep 7 feet apart in order to defeat the frightening progress of a bug we cannot see or smell – or, as yet, cure. My Virus Information page will be updated regularly to pass on as much detail as possible. Stay safe by doing exactly what the experts tell you. Wash your hands frequently. Think of others with kindness. We are all in this together now.
