I want to sincerely thank all the people of this huge constituency for taking the trouble to vote - even if you did not support me. It has been a gruelling few weeks for voters and candidates alike. I know that my opponents, as well as their hard-working helpers, will be as glad as I am that it this election is now over. My immediate intention is to return to Westminster and start fulfilling the promises made during the campaign. I intend to work for everyone with equal dedication. The job is important. The tasks will be challenging. “Getting Brexit Done” is a simple slogan but will certainly involve complex negotiation. I have never underestimated the scale of the task. But the time for division is surely behind us. Bridgwater and West Somerset has always been worth fighting for and I intend to represent the place and its people to the best of my ability.
