TAUNTON'S CRAZY TRADE WAR

 What has got into the thick heads of Taunton Deane Borough Council?

Taunton is skint. It has mismanaged its own budget, got into bed with Somerset County Council and South West One and has now opened a sneaky campaign to undermine Bridgwater's plans to redevelop a site close to the M5 known as the Bridgwater Gateway.  This tinpot council has been e-mailing the Highways Agency trying to get them to stop the development. Taunton argues that it will create too much traffic. But the real reason is old-fashioned sour grapes. Taunton Deane simply hasn't the knack to attract inward investment. Bridgwater always does it better.

Councillor John Williams is leader of Taunton Deane.

Cllr Williams belongs in one. He is out of his depth and out of touch.

 Bridgwater Gateway development has the seal of approval of a senior figure from Taunton's Chamber of Commerce.

Dr Liz Payne-Ahmadi is on the Chamber's Executive Committee. She tells me she is all in favour!
