I already have a dormouse named after me ( see WHO IS HE? )....but now I am very proud to have adopted a Whale.
The hump back whale is a desperately threatened species. The Japanese whaling fleet was attempting to catch and kill 50 of them in the Southern Ocean - in the face of international protest and despite the opposition of the International Whaling Commission. When IFAW asked me to adopt a whale I readily agreed. I have already had detailed correspondence with Ministers about the whole issue - helping constituents to get answers. There is considerable concern about these wonderful endangered creatures. The Japanese have now officially suspended the whale hunt, but that hasn't stopped all the whalers. So the risk to the species remains.

Of course adopting a whale is only a gesture. But sometimes even gestures help.
