On Friday May 23rd the National Audit Office published a damning report about a deal between the Department of Transport and IBM to "streamline" services. This should ring loud bells with anyone interested in the recent deal done between Somerset County Council and IBM.
The National Audit Office tends to do its work with forensic thoroughness. They don't beat about the bush. They don't take the management's flannel. They dig. They delve. They get answers.
And the only control the authorities have over the National Audit Office is picking publication dates for findings. Which is probably why the National Audit Office's report into the hugely wasteful deal between IBM and a Government Department was released on Friday May 23rd.....as everyone fled for a wet May bank holiday weekend.
