Zap Pow Kaboom!

The Beano. It was an important part of my childhood. Yours too perhaps. The Beano was created in 1938 in Scotland by DC Thomson the publisher. I have cherished Dennis the Menace and Gnasher ever since. Whoever says I’m biased against the Scots should learn to laugh a little. At themselves. Yes, the Beano! What a creation! What an inspiration! What a lasting incentive to learn to read! Every issue packed with wonderful drawings, cartoons, jokes and fun. A bit like Parliament, some might say? Anyway the Beano is at the heart of this years Summer Reading Challenge organised by the Reading Agency and helped along by our wonderful libraries. So bury yourself in a book this summer and let the Beano get you started.
