Where have all the flowers gone….?

I greeted the news about the Taunton Flower Show with genuine sadness. As Chair of the All Party Horticulture and Gardening Group I take a keen interest in fostering everything to do with flora. So when it became clear that Taunton’s famous flower show will soon be forced to seek a new home (because Taunton Deane Council is imposing stiff new charges next year) I got thinking. How about considering staging it away from Taunton altogether. I am already putting out feelers in Minehead, or even Bridgwater?  There are, I am convinced, suitable venues eager to attract the thousands of visitors that this excellent 166-year-old event often pulls in. Perhaps Taunton Deane Council would like to invest in a very humble stand at the 2018 show, purely to restore a little bit of lost goodwill?  My headline

My chosen headline “Where have all the flowers gone” is actually the title of a famous, gentle protest song written by Pete Seeger the chorus of which could be an apt epitaph for Taunton Deane Council’s extraordinary false economy……….it goes like this: “When will they ever learn? When will they ee-ver learn?”
