Politics can be a cold cruel calling. Whenever a Government loses a general election the removal vans arrive quietly around dawn at the rear entrance of Downing Street. Prime Ministerial personal belongings are hurriedly loaded aboard by men in brown overalls. Careers vanish into cardboard boxes. Power slips away without pomp or ceremony. It is a levelling experience to witness. So, whenever I spot a removal van outside an important public building I always stop and wonder. For a big van usually means big change. This snap was taken outside the main entrance to County Hall in Taunton in the past couple of days. It is no secret that our County Council faces enormously budget challenges, is threatening to cut many services and shed staff.  But are they really getting rid of their old photocopiers just to save a few quid? I think we should be told!
