I am a big fan of Roald Dahl and his books (though I often have a struggle spelling his name!) Mr Dahl wrote some captivating and very funny books which have stood the test of time. His writings are the theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge – a unique partnership between The Reading Agency and public libraries across the UK. Last year 780,000 children got borrowing, reading and talking about their favourite books. I sincerely hope parents, grandparents and carers in Bridgwater and West Somerset will take their children to the nearest library over the summer to sign up for the Challenge. It’s free, inclusive and, most importantly, makes reading fun. Last year 7937 children in Somerset took part. I hope we can increase that number this year and remind everyone our local libraries are really valuable community assets.
