We knew it was coming, but now its official – the new National College for Nuclear will be granted fifteen million pounds by the Government. This will pay for new buildings and equipment. Additional funding of £3million is coming from the SW Local Enterprise Partnership and £4.5million will be invested by Bridgwater College. The new facilities will be based both in Somerset and up in Cumbria, close to Hinkley and Sellafield the UK’s most important nuclear sites. It is yet another significant reminder of the importance of this area in the development of new nuclear power and another pointer towards the future. The college will attract students not only from Somerset but also from al corners of the globe. It is a project worth celebrating – and I do!
