This has been my first full week back at Westminster since the General election – and already a busy one. With a Conservative Government and an array of new ministers I see it as an important part of my job to put the case for local issues quickly with the top people. So I have been trying to arrange a meeting with the Secretary of State for Energy Amber Rudd:I want to bring her up to speed with everything to do with the development of Hinkley C from our own perspective. I believe it is vital that this scheme goes ahead as soon as possible. I also took the opportunity to meet the President of the NFU, Meurig Raymond:The problems farmers have been facing deserve the full attention of Ministers, and I intend to ensure that agriculture is recognised as an essential industry in this constituency. Next week is half term and an opportunity for tourism to show its strengths in Bridgwater and West Somerset. I have already popped in to my excellent local zoo, Tropiquaria, to meet the team and some of the splendid creatures they look after. It happens to be Love your Zoo week and I confess to having made a special new friend called Millie (she’s a Marmoset, and a very pretty one at that!)
